The Greatest One Day International Cricket Match Of All TimeSouth Africa Vs. Australia March 2006This cricket game has to be the greatest cricket One Day International match of all time. This cricket match turned the cricket hater into the cricket lover and transformed the cricket beliefs of South Africa. There were so many cricket records broken in this match. This was the first time in the history of One Day International cricket that a team scored more than 400 in an innings, and then obviously it was the highest chased total in the history of One Day International Cricket...438-9 to be exact. The series was tied at 2-2 and whoever won this cricket match played at the Liberty Life Wanderers Stadium would win the series. Ricky Ponting, the captain of the Australian cricket team won the toss and decided to bat first. The 2 standing umpires for this game were Aleem Dar from Pakistan and Brian Jerling from South Africa. The 3rd Umpire was Karl Hurter and the match referee was Chris Broad from England. The men of the match were Rick Ponting of Australia and Herschelle Gibbs of South Africa, although after the match Ricky Ponting actually gave his half of the player of the match award to Herschelle Gibbs. The player of the series was Shaun Pollock, 'luckily' for him, Shaun Pollock had picked up an injury and did not play in this match.
