Focus Cricket Club Championship Night Series

The Focus Club Championship Night Series

This unique form of cricket was founded by Gareth Roocroft and Antony Botha in 2006. This cricket championship is contested by 4 club teams in an unlimited overs format. There are 6 players in each team and this type of cricket is played under lights at night. This is a private league played in the Gauteng province in South Africa. Of the 4 teams playing in the Focus Club Championship 2 of the teams are managed by the founders: Gareth Roocroft and Antony Botha. Both these teams are made up of family and friends who love cricket.

The Teams That Play For The Focus Trophy

The teams that play in the Focus Cricket Club Championship Night Series are: Woodlands Cricket Club (Woodlands CC), Leopards Cricket Association (LCA), Botha's Cricket Academy, Lakeview Cricket Club (Lakeview CC). These teams are all evenly matched and we will just have to wait to see who the champions will be!

The Rules Of This Cricket Competition

There are 4 teams in one group that play each other once in a 1 innings per side unlimited overs format. The unlimited overs format is where the batting side can bat for as many overs as they want. These games often go into the early hours of the morning. Each team can play 6 individual cricket players and can have a squad size of 9 players for this exciting night cricket competition. Of the 6 players, one player is the wicket keeper while 4 players field and 1 player bowls. The 2 teams that have the most points after each cricket team has played the other will play in the final.

The Point System Of The Cricket Night Series

Points are the main factor in this form of cricket, they will determine whether you play in the final or not. When a team wins a match they get 2 points while the losers don't get any. If the cricket match ends up in a tie or weather conditions prevent any play each team is awarded 1 point. Listed below are the points awarded for batting and bowling:

Batting...

  • Every 25 runs that are scored the batting cricket team gets 1 point.

  • If a batting team scores over 200 runs 1 point is awarded.

  • If a batting team scores over 300 runs 2 points are awarded.

Bowling...

  • Whenever the fielding cricket team bowls out the batting team they get 1 point.

  • If they bowl them out under 50 runs the bowling team gets 3 points.

  • If they bowl them out under 100 runs the bowling team gets 2 points.

  • If they bowl them out under 150 runs the bowling team gets 1 point.
